When Patrick Swayze died, we all wanted to know how Keanu Reeves took the news. After all, Keanu and Patrick co-headlined “Point Break,” one of the most legendary cult classics in film history.
Keanu has finally spoken out about Patrick’s death. We say finally because, even though Patrick only died a few days ago, there’s been time for no fewer than four billion parody Photoshops of Kanye interrupting his death. And it was more than just laying on the ground, shooting his gun into the air, yelling “Noooooooo!” Keanu told “People” magazine that Patrick was just as EXTREME as his character, Bodhi, in “Point Break”…
There was some sky diving sequences in this film we did together and as filming was going on it came to be that Patrick was jumping out of airplanes all the time. I think he had over 30 jumps during the course of filming and so the production served him with a cease and desist which he listened to until they got to Hawaii. He jumps out of planes and did the flips and falling to the ground and he did it with an open heart.
He was a beautiful person, an artist. Patrick, he just wanted to experience life and for his work he wanted to take the opportunity of the film and it gave him that sense.
Which makes it a real shame that Patrick died of cancer, and not surfing Bells Beach when the twice-a-century storm brings the biggest surf this planet has ever seen. RIP, Patrick Swayze. RIP.
