One of the biggest questions that no one ever asked is about to get answered: If you strip away the costumes and the choreographed karate, were the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers actually tough in real life?
Jason David Frank, who played the Tommy, the Green Ranger, during the original run of “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” is training to become a UFC fighter.
He’s working with Melvin Guillard, a UFC lightweight fighter. It’s a serious long shot that he would get signed by UFC. He’s 35, which is way too old to get started in mixed martial arts training. Plus, ya know, this all kinda smells like a publicity stunt.
Jason says, “I want to put the work in until I’m ready. I know I have a target on my back. Everyone is going to want to beat up the Green Ranger.” (Damn straight. We kinda want to take a swing at him, and we don’t even have a real reason. He just looks like one of those guys you want to take a swing at.)
Jason’s last acting job was in 2007, in a straight-to-DVD movie called “The Junior Defenders.” Almost his entire body of acting work has been in “Power Rangers” spin-offs. So really, if he gets murdered in 14 seconds by a UFC fighter, Hollywood will find a way to survive.
