Nothing says “genuine human feeling” like expressing yourself with an emoticon! After DJ AM’s death last week, his fellow celebrities took to the Twitter to express their condolences. Many offered up simple “Rest In Peace” messages. Some offered brief personal stories (including Courtney Love tweeting about sitting next to him on a plane and sharing “RX stories.”) But, some decided their grief could only be summed up in emoticon form.
5. Kat Dennings
We’re guessing Kat didn’t know AM. She only knew he was young, and it’s sad when someone young dies. That is why she carefully went with the frowny face for her Tweet: “R.I.P DJ AM… so young…:(“ Life must go on and you can’t frowny face forever… so she followed that up about seven hours later with her next Tweet: “Peter O’Toole was so damn fly back in the day. I ain’t mad at you, Peter O’Toole!”
4. Vanessa Simmons
“RIP DJ AM…. :/ .. Im reading people tweets confused, i had no clue” was Vanessa’s reaction to DJ AM’s death. She clearly decided to go for the “confused/perplexed” angle with the :/ face.This was a better call than perhaps the surprised face :-o or the very confused face :~?.
3. Rose McGowan
Rose went with “Just heard about DJ AM. So terribly sad. RIP ;..(“ That’s a pretty expressive emoticon. The semicolon shows us she’s welling up with tears, and the periods representing those tears really drive the message home. Cap it all off with a frowny parentheses, and it’s clear she was taking the death hard.
2. Sean Kingston
Sean tweeted: “R.I.P Dj Am he was a great guy man ;(“ Hmm. That’s a bit of an adjustment from Rose McGowan’s tweet. While her semicolon-frown emoticon shed real period tears, Sean’s remains a bit more stoic. It’s like his emoticon is fighting back tears. We appreciate that from a celebrity emoticon — it has to stay strong for the rest of us.
1. Paris Hilton
Unlike the rest of these celebrities, Paris and DJ AM go way back. You know she would have the strongest feelings of all. We couldn’t even fathom the super-emoticon she might pull out. Over the course of Friday, she really chronicled her sadness over his death on Twitter, posting eight tweets. Six of them used an emoticon…
It’s so hard to accept that I’m not going to be able to see him or talk to him again. There are no right words for this, I feel so sad. :(
R.I.P. AM, I love you and you are already missed so much. My heart and prayers go out to his family and close friends. God bless. :(
