Our hearts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Ed McMahon, who died early Monday at the age of 86. For 30 years, he sat by the side of Johnny Carson and defined the role of the TV sidekick, then followed that up by introducing us to many of our generation’s celebrities via Star Search, and making fun of them with Dick Clark on TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes. He also offered to giveaway millions of dollars in cardboard checks through Publisher’s Clearing House, and even more recently, asked if you’d like to sell your gold 4 cash.
This sketch video he did last year (note the neck brace) likely will not be how you remember Ed McMahon — fewer than 1,000 viewers had seen it before he died — but Funny or Die wanted us to pass it along. So here it is. Ed McMahon, in the “Banapple” sketch with young comedian Adam Ray.
