James Franco Would Rather Sleep Than Deliver UCLA Graduation Speech

Thursday June 4, 2009 1:48 PM

This was James Franco, clearly enjoying his grad studies at Columbia University earlier this year. So could you think of anyone more qualified than Franco to deliver the commencement speech this month to new graduates at UCLA?

Well, the students at UCLA could. They created a Facebook page to protest Franco’s speech. And they won! Sort of. UCLA announced yesterday that James Franco would have to back out of the speaking gig.

So he gave this speech instead:”I deeply regret not being able to keep my commitment to giving the commencement speech at UCLA’s graduation this year. Unfortunately the date conflicts with me needing to be on location to begin pre-production on my next film. I wish everyone in the 2009 class the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.”

Actually, that’s probably the best speech he could have given without falling asleep. Where’s his honorary degree? Maybe he was too busy going to Britney Spears concerts.
