Yes, yes we know. Tom Hanks is the most likable guy in Hollywood. Here is Tom doing an interview on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Tom describes how people treat him when they see him on the street. “Wilson!” “Run Forrest run!” “Houston we have a problem!” We have to imagine that gets annoying after a while, but not to Tom Hanks. He is sincere and gracious. He’s not the most likable guy in Hollywood for nothing.
Yawn, right?! But then Jonathan asks Tom if people ever ask him to the “Rap” from Big. Tom explains that they were looking for something to put in the film that both Josh and his best friend Billy would recognize so that Billy would understand that Josh is still Josh only . . .big. Tom’s son had learned this song at summer camp and they put it in. Tom then breaks into a full on rendition of the rap complete with the hand gestures and everything from the movie! Every cynical comment or eye roll we ever made about Tom Hanks just went out the window. We surrender. Tomorrow we’ll start sporting some Team Hanks gear. But we’re still not getting in line to see Angels and Demons. That’s where we draw the line.
