What Makes Randy Jackson an Expert on Talent?

Contestants often ask Randy after he gives a “I don’t know Dawg” talent slam, “what makes you an expert?”

Well that’s a good question. Let’s see what he’s done.

He’s played in bands with Carlos Santana, Jerry Garcia, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman and even the Divinyls.

But what should he really be proud of? Playing bass guitar for Journey at the tail end of their popularity. This is of course while they still had Steve Perry, who was eventually replaced with Steve Augeri who sounded more like Steve Perry than Perry did. But was he Perry enough? Hell no, Augeri was replaced with Arnel Pineda who was an 11 on the Perry scale. He was very Perrylicious.

Randy toured with them Journey during their ‘Raised on the Radio’ tour which I actually saw in Fresno in the late 80s. Though I don’t remember Jackson by name. I do remember him as the black guy with the hair.

So Randy, when people ask “what makes you an expert?”

Let them know you rocked it… with this hair!
